  • Can I get a garage door installed in winter?

Yes, you can! Some people believe that installing a garage door during the winter is not a good idea. Think again! It can be done! Whether it's for a renovation or a new construction, cold weather has no impact on changing a garage door. Even though the cold can be an obstacle to completing certain kinds of exterior work, installing a garage door presents no problem.

Putting in a new garage door is not a time-consuming task. Also, you have no reason to worry about your home losing heat. Our garage door professionals are true experts and are used to cold weather. They work safely, and you can rest assured that they will not install doors during snow or ice storms or in extreme cold. Did you know that having a garage door installed during the winter months is sometimes an advantage? This season is often less busy, so delivery and installation times are usually shorter.

  • How should I take care of my door’s steel or aluminum surface?

Whenever you're washing your car in the driveway, you should go ahead and take a pass at your garage door. Use car wash soap. For any stubborn marks, use an all-purpose detergent, and avoid any abrasive cleaners. Don’t neglect the inside of your door.

Any dirt that builds up over the winter can reduce the long-term shine of your door. If you’d like your door to keep its brand-new appearance, once a year, apply liquid car wax to it on a cloudy day. This will protect its luster and restore its shine.

  • How do I install the MyQ app on my smartphone?

You can find instructions at https://www.myliftmaster.com/Login.aspx. Call Diamond Overhead Door today if you'd like to learn more about using this app with your garage door.

  • What is the standard garage door size?

Garage door sizes can vary by door type. In our experience, when it comes to a single garage door for an approximately 12’ x 22’ detached garage or one attached to your house, the most common width is 8 or 9 feet. As for the height, it's 7 or 8 feet. However, we've seen that in terms of height, it can go up to 12 feet to accommodate an RV.

Our experts have found that the ideal size for an 8’ x 14’ garden shed is a 6’ x 6’6" garage door. When it comes to a double garage door for an approximately 18’ x 24’ detached garage or one attached to your house, the width we've seen most often is 16 feet. For height, we've seen about 7 or 8 feet most often. Depending on your needs, we've seen that the height can go up to 10 feet. Reach out today to get started with the right garage door for you.

  • Should I have maintenance performed on my garage door?

Yes! In our experience, preventive maintenance should be completed every 18 months, starting two years after your purchase, or twice a year if your door is over two years old. We recommend you have this maintenance carried out at the start of spring and before winter arrives. According to Consumer Affairs, a garage door can typically last between 15 to 30 years, especially with proper maintenance.

If you're too busy, we can give your system a tune-up. For a small fee, our professional technicians will carry out a 10-point verification of your whole garage door system including lubricating and making any needed adjustments. If any defective part needs to be changed, you will always be consulted before it's replaced. Contact us today to learn more.

  • What maintenance is suggested for tracks, hinges, rollers, and springs?

Rollers, hinges, and all moving hardware should be lubricated with a metal lubricant. For the tracks, you can also use a metal lubricant, mainly where the tracks curve. The same goes for the garage door springs. Apply a metal lubricant and wipe off the excess with a cloth, thus lengthening the lifespan of your springs.

  • What types of remote transmitters (remotes, remote controls) can I use with my garage door?

We can provide you with remote transmitters (remotes or remote controls) to work with LiftMaster, Chamberlain, or Craftsman (Sears) brand garage door openers. We also have three-button mini remotes that can be put on your key ring. Additionally, there's a universal remote transmitter (375UT) for other brands of door openers. Call us today to see our available remote transmitters.

  • How can you save energy with your garage door choice?

When buying a garage door, we've seen that homeowners are increasingly opting for a long-lasting and energy-efficient product. To help you make the right choice, here are some factors that will make your decision easier.

    - The construction of the door: Garage doors insulated with polyurethane foam ensure you of good insulation. As the foam adheres to the walls of the door, it also guarantees you have a strong product with flexibility that surpasses all other types of insulation.

    - The quality of the weatherstripping: Exterior frame weatherstripping, like that at the bottom of the door, is made of PVC. PVC quality can be measured by its flexibility at sub-freezing temperatures. The more you pay for it, the better quality you'll receive. The weatherstripping found between door sections should be closely examined. Does it effectively stop air infiltration? Does it have a thermal break?

    - The sturdiness of the hardware system: The sturdiness of a hardware system is important. The durability of a garage door is linked to these mechanical components. What type of steel is used for tracks, rollers, and hinges? Welded tracks, hinges with a minimum gauge of 14, strong anchor plates, and nylon rollers with 11 ball bearings are some of the features that allow you to have a solidly-installed garage door.

    - The power of the door openers: You should carefully consider your choice of garage door opener. Depending on your door model and the configuration of your garage, different garage door openers are available. In addition to its type and power, you can also verify that it isn't too energy-consuming.

Your investment in a new garage door won't pay off if you don't purchase a truly insulated door, especially one that's watertight and airtight. Contact us today to get started.
